Faculty Start-up

If you are a new faculty member, LSA IT - Randall will be happy to work with you to get your initial computing needs handled. We support Linux, Macs and Windows.

Be aware that we are an HP shop for Windows/Linux machines so ordering something that is not HP may introduce delays in acquisition of the hardware. For your convenience, you can find the HP government and education here. Please note that pricing may be different (usually cheaper) per our negotiated contracts.

The College of LSA allocates $1500 in your start-up funds for the purchase of a computer but, you can supplement that amount with additional start-up funds if you prefer.

The Process

  • When you are ready to order your new machine, please submit a ticket request including the words "Faculty Startup" in the short description field of the ticket describing what kind of computer you will need along with your shortcode information. We will help with recommendations on what model to get. If you already have a specific computer model you would like, please let us know that as well. If you do not have a university uniqname when you start the ordering process, just use “none” and make sure your contact information is included in the notes field of the ticket. If you have chosen a PC, we will need you know if you prefer Linux or Windows.
  • Once the machine arrives, we will send you a build form to fill out. The build form asks questions like what software you will need (out of what we have licensed) and if you have any special requests.
  • When the machine is ready, we’ll let you know and arrange pickup or delivery.

 The biggest delay in this process is usually waiting on the purchasing process but even that is *usually* pretty quick (less than a week) unless you select equipment that is not HP or Apple. In that case, it may be several weeks before the equipment makes it through the procurement process.
